Multiphonic Quartett is a young & aspiring Saxophone quartet from Düsseldorf, Germany. With its unique and genre-overarching repertoire, Multiphonic accentuates several events and fills concert halls in germany and surrounding.
The name "Multiphonic" is attributable to a special playing technique, which enables a wind instrument to play multiple tones at a time. Moreover, Multiphonics' four saxophonists relate this name to the high variability of creative and genre-overarching opportunities, which the lineup of four saxophone offers. Silas Kurth, Olivia Nosseck, Katrin Ticheloven and Luca Winkmann started their journey already back in 2007 at Musikschule in krefeld. Since then they have won several National and International competitions. Their most important musical inspiration and tutor was the renowned hungarian calrinetist and saxophonist, Laszlo Dömötör, who sadly passed away in 2020, leaving a big gap in the international world of saxophone. As years went by the quartet evolved from being young music students to becoming prefessional musicians, looking back on 15 years of common experience.
To gain further musical education the four saxophonists were instructed by Andreas Hillner and Martin Hillner at Rober Schumann hochschule Düsseldorf, as well as by Prof. Daniel gauthier and Sebastian Pottmeier at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Apart from that, multiphonic got further valuable input at international master classes by prestigious lecturers like arno bornkamp (Amsterdam), Vincent david (Paris), jan schulte-bunert (Berlin) and lutz koppetsch (Würzburg).
Within the scope of A internal competition at Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, Multiphpnic was awarded first place of Sieghardt-Rometsch competition back in 2018 and 2019. An additional reward was a live concert at WDR3, which is on of the biggest classical radio channels in germany.
Since 2020, Multiphonic Quartet is scholarship holder of Werner RIchard - Dr. Carl Dörken foundation, and was added to the 2022 support program "Neustart Kultur" of Deutsche Musikrat (German music council), aiming to revive the cultural landscape of Germany in times of Covid-19.
